dvd_countrybearjamboree[DVD: Theme Parkology – 2013 – 47 mins +bonus]. In 1971, a new bear band debuted at Walt Disney World (Lake Buena Vista, Florida) and quickly became a favourite among guests. The Bears were originally conceived to provide entertainment at a restaurant within a ski resort in Mineral King Valley (Sequoia National Forest, California), but the resort never came to be. Following Walt Disney’s death in December 1966, it was decided that the Bears would make their debut at Walt Disney World. This knee-slappin’, hip swaying documentary shares the Country Bears’ humble beginnings, their integration into other Disney parks, the many seasonal changes and the sad demise of the Bear Show from Disneyland (Anaheim, California). This DVD also features an interview with film puppeteer Terri Hardin, and also the Country Bears’ stage show in its entirety. ANDY SHINE SAYS: Less demanding 1970s and ‘80s audiences were easily entertained with mechanical bears giving a lip-sync performance to songs you’ve never heard of, including: ‘Blood On The Saddle’, ‘Tears Will Be The Chaser For My Wine’, ‘The Fractured Folk Song’ and ‘Mama Don’t Whip Little Buford’! The 16-minutes bonus film “The Country Bears’ Christmas Special” features the Country Bears’ seasonal stage show. ANDY SHINE’S RATING: Good.
