ROCKET TO THE MOON AND THE FLYING SAUCERS.

dvd_rockettothemoon-flyingsaucers[DVD: Theme Parkology – 2013 – 57 mins]. 3, 2, 1… Blast Off! In July of 1955, Disneyland (Anaheim, California) unveiled a new attraction in Tomorrowland: The Rocket to the Moon. This exciting ride took guests on a simulated journey through space towards their lunar destination! In 1961, another attraction opened its space ports in Tomorrowland. The Flying Saucers allowed guests to hover and manoeuvre across a metal floor in their own two-seat spacecraft! This double feature explores the history of both attractions. ANDY SHINE SAYS: I enjoyed these programmes, but fast-forwarded through the lengthy on-ride portion of the Rocket to the Moon (total length 31-mins). The Rocket to the Moon attraction was clearly much more fun to experience first-hand than to watch on television some 60-years later. The Flying Saucers programme (total length 26-mins) features Disney Imagineer, Bob Gurr, who shares his unique insight. ANDY SHINE’S RATING: Fair / Good.
